Coworking in Valencia, the new way of working

Many expats who come to live in Valencia work remotely for foreign companies or have their own online businesses. This makes Valencia a very enterprising and international city. ‘Digital nomads’ love staying here temporarily or permanently, because of the relaxed lifestyle, the beautiful city, but also because of the excellent internet connection that you can find everywhere in Valencia. However, being a freelancer or self-employed person can sometimes feel lonely, especially if you have just landed in Spain and don’t know that many people yet. Working from home can be lonely, and for some people, also counterproductive. Coworking offers an ideal solution in that case. What is this new phenomenon, and what makes coworking in Valencia such a great idea?

If you mainly work online as an entrepreneur or remote worker, you can live anywhere in the world. Laptop in your bag, and you can settle down wherever you want. As long as the wifi is good. You can schedule meetings via Zoom, Skype or other video apps, and there is a myriad of other helpful software programmes for working on projects with clients and colleagues globally. The world is your oyster. It is fantastic to have so much freedom compared to the 9 to 5 job you may have had in the past. If you decide to work remotely as self-employed, your company does have to be registered in a specific country, and you must pay income tax in the country where you stay more than 180 days a year (if you have any questions about this, we can advise you on this).

Working from home is not always possible

Some people love working from home, but others prefer working with others. You may be easily distracted by household chores at home, or you may be bothered by noise from the neighbours. It is also possible that your apartment is not suitable for working from home or you find it difficult to combine family life with getting work done. You can choose to work in a coffee shop, but there is usually a coming and going of people talking, and the tables and chairs are not suitable for working. Moreover, not every cafe owner accepts workers occupying a table all day on just one cup of coffee and a sandwich.

A coworking space in Valencia is a good solution for these kinds of situations. You cycle or walk to your favourite coworking place, sit down in a comfortable chair at a lovely tidy desk, plug in your laptop and get to work.

There are almost 40 coworking spaces in Valencia. This number has grown enormously in recent years, which indicates how much remote working is on the rise. Certainly, since 2020, when we were all forced to work from home, everyone now knows how to organise a meeting via a video call. Most clients and bosses no longer find it a problem if you deliver your work without coming into the office. An advantage of coworking places is that you quickly build a network of freelancers, entrepreneurs or remote employees just like you. Some coworking spaces in Valencia also organise networking events, training, and other events to help you in your work.

Where do you find coworking spaces in Valencia, and what do they look like?

Imagine a bright, modern space with many workstations at long tables, electrical outlets everywhere, and a kitchenette in the corner to make coffee. Here you can settle down for the day, next to fellow workers, just as if you were sitting in the office. It is nice and quiet, and everyone is hard at work. Some have headphones on for extra concentration. There are also smaller enclosed spaces that you can rent for a meeting. You pay per day or month for a workplace or a desk, with the price starting around 10€ per day. The better the facilities, the more you pay.

There are coworking spaces all over the city, and you can find one in almost every neighbourhood. On Coworker you can easily compare different coworking places in Valencia. There are also reviews on it, so you can get a better idea of which place is most suitable for you.
